OBITUARY

E S PALMER

1915 - 2011

Honorary Life President

Syl, as he was known to everyone, was a founding member of our club on 30th January 1957, along with McCombie-Metcalfe.

Syl originated from the Bristol area. Later, he and his late wife Mary, had “Palmer’s Newsagents” in Leyburn, which is now the  “Wobbly Dog”.

Both Syl and Mary rode motorbikes and never missed “The Scott Trial” or the “Scottish 6 Days Trial”. He even rode his off-road bike around the garden in his late 80’s. He was a radio ham, and he enjoyed watching the birds feeding in his garden.

Syl was always an active member and I remember him coming on club outings over the years, helping to organise and taking part in our competitions. Sadly, Syl had not been able to attend our club of later years due to lack of hearing and mobility problems.

Syl passed away on 18th May 2011, leaving a daughter and two grandchildren whom he adored. At his funeral the collection was split between our club and Richmond Motor Club. Our most grateful thanks to his family for this donation.
